In a heart-wrenching letter of provenance supplied by the original owner, he recounts how his father would recover from his illness and seventeen years later find himself storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Three months into his march through German-occupied France, the young man was killed, leaving behind an infant son he had met only once, and little more than this Babe Ruth baseball he had cherished since he was a sickly eight-year old boy.
